We are so happy to be back in our little home in Shanghai. It was a long month leading up to being back. Lots of travel and goodbyes (always so hard). We had Christmas with both sides of the family, then a trip to Michigan for extended family visits, and then the loooong trip back. Alex's parents are with us now and we are looking forward to apartment hunting with them as soon as the realty offices open back up. What a blessing to have Alex's parents living so close to us now!

Happy Chinese New Year
Happy Year of the Rabbit! I woke up at 6am this morning to the sound of more fireworks in our neighborhood. They began at dusk last night and went until well after midnight. And now that dawn has arrived, they have begun again! Last night Alex visited the fireworks stand and bought a few of the smaller items to do with some of the American and Canadian kids in our neighborhood. We got outside a little before dinner to se them off. This fountain pictured below was one of the favorites! Chinese New Year is a bit like our Christmas in the sense that it is the one holiday of the year where everybody makes sure they get 'home for the holidays'. Everything shuts down (I mean everything...we've been stocking up on groceries!) for a few days. Firecrackers and fireworks will be set off constantly over the next 14 days. The big day in Shanghai for fireworks is actually the 'god of wealth' night...day 5 of the New Year. People will set off firecrackers and fireworks to bring good luck and prosperity in the work year ahead. Our girls managed to sleep through the fireworks last night, but I am not looking forward to the 5th day...that was the worst last year for noise!
