January and Monkey Bites

Long time no blog! We had quite a month, with lots of travel. We were back from the US for about 3 days and Alex headed to Korea, then we met his family in Malaysia for a few days over the Chinese New Year. We returned on day 3 of the New Year (January 28th) and were greeted with unbelievable fireworks and firecrackers...unbelievable in a very not-safe, non-stop 7 hour experience that is a little hard to describe. Thankfully the fireworks have slowed down, and we don't expect too many more until day 14 (Lantern Festival). We really enjoyed time with Alex's family in Langkawi, Malaysia. It was nice to be warm for a few days and the girls loved getting good time with their grandparents, aunts, and uncle! Unfortunately, on day 5 we visited a zoo and Vera was bitten by a monkey. The bite wasn't bad, but it drew blood, so we had to rush off to Kuala Lumpur and then Bangkok to get the right Rabies treatment and vaccinations. Yikes! Amazingly, Alex's sister snapped this photo just as the monkey bit Vera. Kind of crazy. The craziest thing? Vera LOVES looking at this photo. She doesn't seem to be afraid of monkeys...more afraid of doctors and needles, I guess! So, I'll post the photo here...along with a nice family photo taken the next day before our medical insurance company flew us out to get the vaccinations for Vera.
