On Monday our family set out for a day at the world Expo. We had debated the sanity of taking all of our children to one of the world's most crowded locations, but decided it was probably worth it for them to have the experience. We borrowed an extra stroller and went with a friend and her daughter (Wendy's best friend...KeKe) and ended up having a great day. Our original plan was to try to make it until 2pm...we ended up not leaving until 6:30pm! I think the key was the extra stroller...and coca-cola. It was everywhere. And our girls enjoyed their first sips of real coke...ok, maybe more than a few sips. But it was worth it!
We had to do a photo in front of the China Pavilion...along with the other half a million people who visited! The expected wait to get into the China Pavilion that day: 8 hours. The nice thing for us is that the pavilion will remain open after the Expo is over. So we plan to visit sometime next spring when there aren't any lines!
Seeing the pavilions in the daytime was nice. I loved Latvia's pavilion. The exterior is made up of tiny squares of shiny metal...it looked really cool. We didn't see it on Monday, but at different times during the day they have a wind tunnel that they turn on and acrobats 'fly' a few feet above the pavilion.
We saw some Indian drummers a little before lunch...sorry I forgot to take photos. But here is the view of the exterior of the India pavilion. Probably my favorite from the outside.
A glimpse of the crowd shuffling through the Israel pavilion. Oh how patient our girls are! I'm so thankful for them. They hardly complained all day and handled the crowds really well.
And now for the photos from the highlight of the day! The Denmark pavilion. Yes, that is the actual Little Mermaid statue airlifted out of Denmark and flown to the Expo in Shanghai. Very impressive!

The Denmark pavilion was circular and had a walkway that looped around the interior. Here are the girls taking a break about halfway up.
At the top was a little water fountain that the girls enjoyed. I did not bring an extra change of clothing, so I let them run around like this. I wasn't sure about it at first, but it was worth it. This little playtime in the water fountain is probably what helped the girls last all day at the Expo!
Geneva spent the whole time laughing at her sisters...Daddy let her get her feet wet too!

Our late afternoon stop was at the Joint-Africa Pavilion where we chatted with the ladies at the Ethiopian pavilion. Vera was a little shy, but warmed up after they gave the girls a ton of Ethiopian flag temporary tattoos.
